The Palermo Opera House, Palermo

The original Palermo Opera House, Teatro Massimo, opened in 1897 after almost 20 years of preparation, due to political fighting, the death of the original architects, cost over runs etc. The theater was closed again in 1974 for a complete restoration and reopened after 26 years. The long waiting time was well worth it. The theatre is in fact a wonderful avenue for classical performances. From the front steps to the foyer to the tiered boxes looking out over the stalls, it is a pleasure to enjoy this venue as much as it is listening to the concerts that take place here all year around.
