The toe of Italy's boot...is the mythical Region of Calabria, or as we call it, the Kingdom of the Sun. On its west side, it is lapped by the immemorial waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea, cruising waters of Ulysses and his Argonauts, and on its east side, by the shimmering waters of the fabled Ionian Sea. In between, the rugged and spectacular mountains of the Silla Massif. This is more than South of Rome...this is another world, once the homeland of Italy's earliest peoples, then of the Greeks whose Calabrian colonies were an important part of Magna Graeca, then of the Romans, Byzantines, Normans, Spanish, French and host of others. A mulitlayere place of historical fact, myth and magic. |

-
Morning: Maratea Guided Tour
Not
many English-speaking visitors
have
been
to Maratea, but those that have,
can attest to the fact that Maratea deserves to be called
"the
pearl"
of the Tyrrhenian sea.
The resort draws travelers
who enjoy a dramatic coastal setting and
historic buildings.
-
Afternoon: Praia a Mare
Praia a Mare is a naturally inspiring destination that has
gone unnoticed by most travelers who have passed up the
town’s treasures which include: pedestrian only tree-lined
streets and a stunning church, known as “La Madonna Della
Grotta” built inside an enormous cave behind the town.

Morning:
Pizzo Calabro Guided Tour
The historical centre of Pizzo is characterized by narrow
lanes and streets with many interconnecting stairways. At
the intersection of many of these lanes and streets, one
finds several squares, some with fountains. There are
numerous mansions with interesting architectural details.
-
Afternoon: Tropea at leisure
Ringed by cliffs and wonderful sandy beaches, the Tropea
promontory is still undiscovered by the big tour operators.
The main town, Tropea, easily wins the contest for prettiest
town on the Calabria Tyrrhenian coast, its old palazzi built
in simple golden stone on an elevation above the sea.

Day 7

Siderno at Leisure
Siderno is set on the Ionian coast and is 115 kilometres
from the capital, Reggio di Calabria. One of the most
favoured holiday destinations with Italians, Siderno has an
air of glamour and is perfect for those who love a more
vibrant scene and is today a great tourist and commercial
centre.
