Heading south of Rome one leaves Lazio-Roma and enters into Campania, itself part of the vast Mezzogiorno which once encompassed all of southern Italy, including Sicily. The modern Region of Campania is an incredibly varied land - it includes the bustling cities of Naples and Salerno and hundreds of smaller towns and cities that have been settled since time immemorial. It is here you find the remains of ancient Greece at Paestum, Agropoli and Herculaneum, the volcanic ruins of Pompeii, the mind-blowing coast of the Amalfi Peninsula...and much much more. |
