Puglia is the heel of Italy's boot - a long peninsular land that extends along the Adriatic coast until it merges with the Ionian Sea.  Puglia's sometimes gentle, sometimes rugged landscape yields amazing grains, olive oils and wines that are sought by gourmands around the world. And, with some of Italy's most interesting architecture, from the astounding Trulli structures of Alberobello to the fearless Norman forts that dot the region, to the amazing Baroque cathedrals that grace the piazzas of its oldest cities, Puglia abounds with the treasures that a traveler craves.

Day 1: Arrival in Bari

~ dinner ~

  • Afternoon: Transfer from Bari Airport to Lecce

  • Evening: Welcome Dinner Party

  • Afternoon: Guided Tour

Lecce is often referred to as the "Florence of the South."  Take note however, that Lecce has a style and grace all her own and really, what really should be said is that there is no Lecce of the north.

Day 2

~ breakfast ~ dinner ~

  • Morning: Otranto Guided Tour

Otranto is situated on the east coast of the Salento peninsula. The town was named Hydruntum after the river Idro (Hydrus) by the Romans.

  • Afternoon: At leisure

Day 3

~ breakfast ~ dinner ~

  • Morning: Santa Maria di Leuca

Capo Santa Maria di Leuca is the south-eastern most point on the Pugliese peninsula, where the Ionian and Adriatic seas meet.  The town's name derives from the Greek word "leucos", meaning 'white'.

  • Afternoon: At leisure

Day 4

~ breakfast ~ dinner ~

  • Morning: Gallipoli Guided Tour

Gallipoli derives its name from the Greek "Kallipolis".  Similarly to the Turkish town of this same name, Gallipoli occupies a strategic location and thus was repeatedly attacked through the centuries.

  • Afternoon: At leisure

Day 5

~ breakfast ~ lunch ~ dinner ~

  • Morning: Ostuni Guided Tour

The town's nickname is "La Citta Bianca" or the "White City," and many visitors upon visiting for the first time have to check their maps to see if they're still in Italy.  The architecture of the town is more Grecian than any other in Italy.

  • Afternoon: Martina Franca

The old town has the greatest tourist appeal, with its fabulous and completely intact baroque buildings. Martina Franca has a unique setting, dominating the Valle d’Itria, known as the Valley of the Trulli with its vineyards, small groups of houses, dry stone walls and open countryside.

Day 6

~ breakfast ~ dinner ~

  • Morning: Matera Guided Tour

This is the most outstanding, intact example of a troglodyte settlement in the Mediterranean region, perfectly adapted to its terrain and ecosystem. The first inhabited zone dates from the Palaeolithic times.

  • Afternoon: At leisure

Day 7

~ breakfast ~ lunch ~ dinner ~

  • Morning: Alberobello Guided Tour

Alberobello has become famous internationally because of its "Trulli", cone shaped houses constructed in stone blocks known as 'chiancole'. The old town is divided into two districts, Ai piccolo and Monti, which are of national importance and have been granted special status by U.N.E.S.C.O.

  • Afternoon: Grotte di Castellana Tour

The Grotta di Castellana lies near the small town Castellana, re-named Castellana-Grotte several years ago.
Visitors are rewarded with one of the most beautiful sights: a showcase of pure white speleothems, stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, calcite crystals, and helictites.

  • Evening: Fairwell Dinner Party

Day 8:

~ breakfast ~

  • Transfer to Bari
