One of the most romantic parts of northern Tuscany is the Garfagnana mountain range, beloved by Lord Byron and Shelley. It is also one of the most interesting, natural areas with gorges, rivers, torrents, medieval villages, churches, and spectacular, scenic drives go over to the Apuan Alps on the other side. At nearly 500mts above sea level, Casa Al Colle perches in absolute tranquility on a hillside looking onto the extravaganza of verdant, rising mountains.

Location
The house is very well furnished, is spacious and has some typical, Tuscan, covered loggia terraces from where the views are ecstatic. The diplomatic proprietors occasionally use their own small wing, but the pool is exclusive to guests. Because the house is of an irregular shape, this wing is an entity which does not interfere with the main house. The house dominates the small hamlet of San Romano, a short walking distance, with a bar and a mobile shop which visits every day except Sunday. On request, a lady from the village can prepare authentic Italian homemade dishes and pizzas. 6 kms distant is the 11th century town of Borgo A Mozzano for all necessities. Here too is the "Devil’s Bridge", legendarily built in a single night by the Devil in return for the first soul to cross it - the locals sent a pig! The house is 4 kms from the main road which leads to Lucca at 20kms, the coast line of Viareggio is 45 kms and Pisa is 42 kms. Many footpaths of varying degrees of difficulty are to be found in the mountains and much local information is available.

Layout
At the upper level are one bedroom with bunk beds, en suite shower room, WC etc., washing machine and a door to a courtyard. The master bedroom and one twin bedded room share a bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, shower cubicle, WC etc., and each has doors onto a loggia terrace. One spacious, formal sitting/dining room and a spacious, informal sitting/dining room both leading onto a central, furnished courtyard. Large, well equipped kitchen having cooker, oven, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. By internal stairs or by ground level entrance to the side, the lower floor has a double bedded rooms sharing a bathroom with WC etc., with a twin bedded room, and each having doors to the loggia terrace. By the pool is a changing room with fridge and a ping pong table.
