Guests to this magnificent site will be staying in the first buildings that gave origin to the village of Greve in Chianti dating back to 1100. Because of its dominant position this fortified castle was strategically important in allowing communication between Florence and Siena. In 1629 it was partially destroyed by two feuding families, one Florentine and one Sienese. During the recent restoration traces of fire on the walls and numerous skeletons of horses have been discovered, testifying the military combats. Archaeological research has brought to light foundations, ceramics and metallic coins dating from 1004.

Location
Today it is simply a peaceful haven. Set high above the town of Greve in Chianti it is reached by an unmade road and enjoys the most amazing vistas, truly romantic. Special attention has been paid to the restructuring in using exclusively the original stones and some of the original floors can still be seen. The internals are colourfully and comfortably furnished and good quality modern fixtures make them efficient units. A small reception room has a telephone, e-mail and fax where guests can receive calls. Greve is approximately a fifteen-minute drive with a multitude of shops selling a range of handicrafts, food and some of the best wines in Tuscany. Panzano in Chianti is a ten minute drive downhill and has some delightful restaurants and bars. This is surely the most picturesque part of the Chianti Classico, midway between Florence and Siena and each within a one-hour drive.

La Tinaia Sleeps 4: This can interconnect with Il Frantoio for a larger group. Spacious sitting-dining room with double, convertible sofa bed and kitchen area having hob and fridge and doors to a small terrace.
