General
The medieval wars between
Florence and Siena gave rise
to this converted
watch-tower that dates back
to the 13th century.
Straight away we can
appreciate why it was chosen
for such important
observation duties - there
are few other buildings in
the vicinity as elevated as
this - and the consequent
far-reaching views are of
typically Tuscan patchwork
fields and woods, all
seemingly paying homage to
distant hilltop towns that
tower above them. One of
these is Panzano-in-Chianti,
not five minutes drive away,
and home to Dario Cecchini,
the butcher, whose family
has been selling the very
best meat here for 250
years, well worth a visit
(but closed on Wednesdays).
The house is tall and, after
its warlike work was done,
it was converted into a
farmhouse. Thick walls and
polished tiled floors frame
the interior which is mostly
beamed and furnished with
lots of dark wood furniture.
While offering most modern
conveniences the style is
classic old Italian with
characterful pictures and
ironwork. Nowhere is this
more in evidence than in the
impressive hall which has a
galleried first-floor
landing and impressive
staircase.
Location
The owner requires that
current internal fixtures
and furnishings be
maintained hence some
clients may find that parts
of this property’s interior
are somewhat dated and worn.
The best shopping is in
nearby Greve-in-Chianti with
its large supermarket,
banks, chemists and
restaurants. However this is
also the chief town of the
Chianti Classico wine area
and home of the largest
Chianti Wine Fair that is
held every September.
Layout

caretaker/s live in a
separate part of the
building. The swimming pool
measures 14m x 7m and the
gardens possess a variety of

the high hall and seating
area. Main dining room with
double aspect windows. Main

doors out to a covered and

the highlights of this

the pool and surrounding
countryside, wonderful for
outside dining. Kitchen with

fridge/freezer, large cooker
and oven, dishwasher and
toaster. Utility room with
access to the uncovered
terrace. Washing machine.
